Service Issues - Resolved Wednesday 10th April 2019

Information Services are currently investigating an issue which is affecting access to a number of services including the University website, student systems and outgoing telephone calls from the Mitel telephone service at the Edinburgh campus.

We are working to resolve this as a priority.

Relocation of book stock – Edinburgh Campus Library

From Monday 1st April 2019, as part of the Library Refurbishment Project, there will be a number of book moves within the Library and to offsite storage.

We are working to ensure that access to the print book collection continues at this time and have put additional services in place to support this.

  • Books with shelf marks 621.4 – 999 approx. will be moved from Floor 2 to Floor 3 to new shelving in the refurbished area of the Library.
  • Books with shelf marks 540 – 621.3973 approx. will be moved to offsite storage and will return before the beginning of next Semester.

Books that are remaining in the Library will continue to be available for use by students and staff. 

Between  1st April and 12th April, Floor 2 will be open for study space; and books will be accessible before they are moved.

Once books are moved to Floor 3, a fetching service will be provided from the Library Service Desk on request.
From 16th April, Floor 2 will close and Floor 3 will be open for study space and access to books, increasing capacity in the Library by approx. 200 seats.

Books that are due to move offsite are available to borrow as usual up until 12thApril.
If you have plans to use specific books between April and August, please borrow them before 12th  April.

Once moved offsitebooks will be availablupon request.  
A retrieval service similar to the current journal and thesis service will be available.
If a book is requested before 12:00 noon then it will be available the following day. (During the move this will be within 48 rather than 24 hours).

WiFi (eduroam) Wireless Upgrades

In order to perform necessary upgrade work on the wireless service, there will be short Wi-Fi outages next Friday and Saturday at the following times

Friday 25th January 5-9pm
Saturday 26th January 8-10am

The main upgrades will be performed on the Friday evening where there will be an initial general outage followed by short outages which will occur at each wireless access point location.
Saturday should be considered as "at risk " as tests will take place to confirm the success of the upgrades of the previous evening.

All areas of the Edinburgh campus will be affected.

The Edinburgh Campus IT HelpDesk and Library will be closed from Friday 21st December 2:30pm to Thursday 3rd January at 9:00am.

There will be some delay to response times during this period.

Information Services Allen McTernan Building Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Maintenance

As part of our ongoing infrastructure maintenance schedule, we are required to replace the batteries in the main data centre UPS, which provides backup power to the majority of services housed in Allen McTernan, in the event of a power outage.
This work will take place on the 17th December and will last one working day.
Whilst this work is ongoing the existing services will be powered directly from the mains supply, but we will have no battery backup in the event of a mains power failure.
Services should therefore be considered at risk during Monday the 17th and Tuesday the 18th of December.
All services run from Allen McTernan should be backed up in advance of this date.
