Resolved: Vision Login issue - 3rd April 2016

Janet Network downtime - 16th March - 18:30 - 19:30 GMT

All institutions using the Janet service are required to make an IP address change to their network by 18th March 2016.  This change is required following the Denial of Service Attacks experienced on the Janet network in December 2015.

To comply with this requirement, HWU will carry out the work on Wednesday 16th March.

  • Date: Wednesday 16th March

  • Time: 18:30 - 19:30 GMT (loss of Internet and Wireless service for approx 15 mins during this time)

  • Users Affected: Staff, Students, External Users, at all Campuses

  • Impact: Loss of Internet and Wireless service for up to 15 minutes during this time

Turnitin – scheduled maintenance – 5th March 2016

We have received the following message from Turnitin

Turnitin services may be intermittently unavailable during a scheduled maintenance period on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 7 am to 11 am U.S. Pacific Time. Check your local time here.

An announcement will appear for users within Turnitin in advance of when the system will be unavailable for this scheduled maintenance.

This maintenance will affect Turnitin and TurnitinUK users.

Instructors are encouraged to modify assignment due dates either before or at least several hours after the scheduled maintenance window.

You can stay current with Turnitin’s system status, performance, security, and scheduled maintenance updates via the Turnitin System Status page or via Twitter at @TurnitinStatus.

Network Security, Performance and Resilience Enhancement Project

Information Services will be carrying out improvements to the network at the Edinburgh Campus Data Centre on Thursday 11th February.

The improvements are part of a series of upgrades we are carrying out to increase our network speed and capacity, enhancing our ability to work globally between our campuses and partner institutions.

  • Date: Thursday 11th February, 2016
  • Time: 1900 – 2000 GMT

While this beneficial work is going on there will be disruption to Internet services, including Vision, Office365 and online library resources for users at all HWU campuses, for which we apologise. We recommend that you save your work frequently during this period.

Vision System at risk: 12th February 2016

Blackboard have scheduled Datacentre Maintenance on Friday 12th February 2016 between 0100 and 0500 GMT (Dubai: 0500 - 0900; Malaysia: 0900 - 1300).

The work being carried out is to move our data to a more scalable storage environment which can accommodate future growth.

You may experience service interruption during this time period (1 am and 5 am GMT)  as the service will be down at some point.
